Horrible Mistakes in Online Surveys
Believe it or not, there is an art of doing everything. You may know the questions you want to ask in your survey but the way you ask it really matters. How you ask a question can change your respondent’s perspective on any issue and force them to answer them incorrectly.
A well-written survey is very important. There is a number of mistakes people make while creating online surveys. If you are willing to design a survey for your organization, you should be aware of some common silly mistakes:
- Mistake #1: Not Understanding Your Audience - You want to get information on your audience through the survey, but you need a basic understanding of what they are thinking. You should know in what language people will respond and give them a genuine selection of options that covers what they think.
- Mistake #2: No Introduction - Even if you have given a brief description of your summary previously you still need to repeat it in the introduction because it is often said that an informed participant is a motivated participant
- Mistake #3: Too Long Survey - The estimated time to complete a survey is 3-4 minutes maximum. Suppose a participant is answering the 9th or 10th question and he/she still see no end to the survey, they will get frustrated and leave it after a while. There is nothing surprising if the respondent’s engagement decreases with each subsequent question.
